WELCOME to the first rendition of Everyday News's election coverage!!! Here, we are trying a new experimental type of news article, so that Unionists can be aware of what is going on in an on-going election. Now, let's review the basics of this election below!

Here, you will find a lot of information regarding elections. Do not hesitate to read campaigns and mark you vote, and enjoy these elections!

GENERAL ELECTION INFORMATION

THE ELECTION

The election being covered today is the January 2021 Chairperson Snap Elections. The elections are to be initiated following Thatcher's resignation as Chancellor on January 3rd 2021, EST. The election is yet to start, but Unionists should be ready to pay attention to campaigns and voting periods.

THE POSITION

The Chairperson is the legislative head of the General Assembly, one of the legislative houses of the Union. They hold votes, present bills, discipline members, maintain records, and otherwise do the background work that keeps the Assembly functioning.

Zeneste
Having joined the Union on June 17 2020, Zeneste became a Citizen on the same day. 10 days later, they ran for Senator and won, serving a term as Senator during August 2020. Zeneste is also well known for their roleplay and worldbuilding ability.

Currently, they serve as Acting Chairperson, Union Ambassador, and Union Recruiter.

Zeneste | Campaign: "Zeneste for General Assembly Chairperson"

Zeneste's campaign focuses on "reforming" the General Assembly, with these reforms primarily supporting changes to the Assembly's internal proceedures to make the body more efficient. Besides reform, Zeneste promises to bring back engagement measures like Discord pings to up citizenship activity, and they will also be appointing a newer Citizen as Deputy Chairperson.


Annnd Zen is the only candidate! For vote purposes, it is recommended that you read the candidate's campaign in its entirety to get a better understanding of what it entails. It is also encouraged to ask the candidate any questions you have!
STANCE ON ISSUES

GENERAL ASSEMBLY REFORM

Zeneste: Supports reforming the General Assembly by having it compromised of only interested citizens. Also wishes to make legislation periods (like debating and amending of bills) more shorter in specific circumstances to speed up the legislative process.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY ABOLISHMENT

Zeneste: Does not support abolishment, on the grounds that the Assembly serves as an important check to the legislative powers of the Senate.

INCREASING ENGAGEMENT WITH THE ASSEMBLY

Zeneste: To raise activity of the Assembly, Zeneste has promised to utilize "Discord pings, NS telegrams, forum links" and "RMB posts" to engage citizens in Assembly debate and votes.

Ultimately, 16 Citizens cast votes in this election! Per the Chancellor's Report, all ballots cast were valid. Voting was conducted via an onsite poll.

With 88% (14/16) of all votes cast, Zeneste has been elected to serve the rest of Chairperson Thatcher's term! Everyday News grants its official congratulations to Zeneste on their nearly unanimous win, and hopes for a productive rest-of-the-term!
