Trading Card Filters
Back in 2018, Trading Cards were introduced to NS as an April Fools joke. In December, they were added back as a permanent feature, this time with additions. One of these additions was the filter: you could see which of your cards (or cards of other players, or cards at auction, or any place where a list of cards was available) were any of the given rarities. When a new season (Season 2) was added in December of 2019, you could also filter for Season 1 or Season 2 cards. There was a problem, however. Only one option could be on at a time.
In the past, this was handled via scripts, such as the now sadly defunct Card Queries by r3n, which scoured the NS database to find any combinations of filters of cards for you. Scripts, though, are not as accessible to the average player, and so on March 19, 2023, Destructive Government Economic Systems (DGES) posted a

thread in the technical forum.

"Can we please be allowed to have multiple card filters active at a time? Currently we can have only 1 filter at a time and that makes searching through collections/decks (along with the ongoing auction list) rather difficult. There's now so many cards (of various rarities) across three seasons that it feels like a good time to expand the filtering limit for everyone's ease-of-access."

This was instantly met with broad support from the cards community, with 7 supportive comments within the week from relatively major cards players, and no disapproval. After a hot four months of coding, the change was brought into effect on August 31st.

So, what's new? Well, you can obviously have more than one filter active at the same time. In fact, you can have as many as you like. The filter is an "and" filter, because, quoting Racoda "an or filter (legendary OR epic) wouldn't be as needed since you could presumably have multiple open tabs for that, right?"

Here are some examples on how the new filter works:
  • If you select "common", you will get all of the common cards from that group.
  • If you select "common" and "ultra-rare", you will get all of the common and ultra-rare cards from that group.
  • If you select "Season 1" and "Season 3", you will get all the S1 and S3 cards from that group.
  • If you select "Season 3", "Season 1", "Legendary", and "Epic", you will get every S1 and S3 card from that group that is either a legendary or an epic.

Puppet Creation and Associated Changes
Before we begin, I'd like to point out that I am not qualified to gauge community opinion or the health of the site in such a delicate situation, so I will provide merely the facts of what is happening and not the arguments for and against puppet masters or modern card farming.

For a few weeks now, the moderation and administration of the site had been complaining publicly over the amount of puppets that some people control, especially card farmers. The culmination of those complaints was

this change, with the thread posted August 26th, altering both puppet creation and card farming.

First, creating nations is now a prohibited action, which cannot be interacted with by a script at all, in any way, instead of a restricted action, which is one that can be scripted with user initiation and restrictions. THIS CHANGE HAS ALREADY COME INTO EFFECT WHEN THE ARTICLE IS POSTED. IF YOU ARE USING ANY SCRIPT TO CREATE NATIONS FASTER OR PRE-CUZTOMIZED, STOP IMMEDIATELY.

Second, using technical wizardry, you can no longer generate working form data for prohibited actions. This means that popular card farming tool GotIssues will be broken permanently in it's current form, and will have to revert to a 2022 version or be abandoned in favor of another, not-broken script, like RCES. This change has not yet come into effect, and will be debated with arguments from both cards and r/d players before being posted in it's final form. The Gameplayer is sure to cover whatever that will look like.
