A MOTION

To repeal the bill UL-014 "Union Day Committee Act"
Introduced into the Senate of the Union of Democratic States on the 14th of January, 2022, by Guess and Check
As follows:

BELIEVING that the intent behind the Union Day Committee Act, to give a proper celebration of the 5th Union Day, was noble,
CONTENDING that while such a goal is noble, there is no need for a lawfully established committee to properly host Union Day celebrations,
NOTING that the bill is now outdated, with references to the General Assembly and Union Day 2020,
BE IT ENACTED by the Senate:

1. UL-014 Union Day Committee Act shall be repealed in its entirety.

Senators,

When this bill was proposed, the Union was facing an impressive milestone - its 5th birthday. The bill was passed, and the Committee made a celebration worthy of the Union's traditions. All around, it was a success.

However, the dated nature of the bill (primarily to 2020 Union Day) should make it clear this bill was not intended for usage beyond that Union Day. And indeed, it wasn't really utilized during last year's Union Day. Not to mention, if we ever really wanted to celebrate Union Day, we could safely entrust the Executive with the duty of hosting festivities.

In short, the bill is useless - we already have other structures in place that can take the Committee's function quite easily. In the interests of keeping our laws as reflective of current Union practices as possible, as well as to just keep our lawbooks clean, I am suggesting to repeal this bill.

Debate is now closed. We now move to formal voting. Those in favour may say Aye, those against may say No.

Ayes to the right - 4
Noes to the left - 0
I think the Ayes have it, the Ayes have it. The bill is passed.
