A MOTION

To enact the bill "A Ban on 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' In This Council"
Introduced into the Council of the Union of Democratic States on the 5rd of December, 2023, by @Ostro​
Whereas it is approaching the holiday known as Christmas,
Whereas a popular song to be played during Christmas is "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey,
Knowing that said song is played far, far too frequently,
Believing that committing torture on the ears of the Councillors is not desirable, and is unconducive to carrying out the affairs of the legislature,

Hereby Enacts:

Section 1 (Short Title)

1. If necessary, this act may be referred to as "A Ban on 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' In This Council"

Section 2 (Provisions)

1. Members of this Council are restricted from playing "All I Want For Christmas Is You" within the Chamber.

Introduction of the Bill "A Ban On 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' In This Council"

My fellow Councillors, I shall keep this one short. All I Want For Christmas Is You is a contagious disease, and one that causes significant harm to the ears and mind of all of us. Oh, it is harmless, even charming, once. But many times and you will begin to experience unbelievable psychological torture. We must ban it before it is too late. Thank you.
 
O' mighty and gracious Speaker of the Council. While my esteem colleague may be correct that "All I Want for Christmas is You" is an annoyance if overused, it is a symbolic and romantic gesture that has seen many generations of humanity through wonderful and fearful times in our history. As a gesture of goodwill, love and a symbol of the spirit of Christmas, it SHOULD not be banned in this wonderful Union.
 
I Do have to Agree with Our Vice President, 'All i Want for Christmas is you' may be overused but it is Indeed a Staple of The Christmas Season
 
There are far superior tunes for every holiday. I urge you to think of this not as an attack on Christmas but an opportunity to appreciate some other songs for once.

What about those in our respectable and free region, whom enjoy the freedom of expression, wish to play this song in the chamber, or recommend it, because they enjoy it?
